UN 4 ALL: a workshop on diversity in the UN workplace

UN 4 ALL is a one-day workshop from UN Cares on diversity targeted to staff of the UN system.

UN-GLOBE has worked with them to ensure that the LGBTI module of this workshop is inclusive, and that it achieves the aim of having complex issues such as sexual orientation or gender identity understood by staff at large.

As many of you can testify, one of the main issues we face as LGBTI staff is ignorance of these issues, with statements such as “I have never met a gay person in my life” routinely heard in the field.

This workshop can be an important tool to help dispel ignorance, and address bias in the UN workplace.

You can play a part by participating in these workshops.

Should you feel comfortable doing so, please consider sharing your experiences during these workshops.

People react powerfully to stories, particularly to personal stories.

And they would better understand difficult concepts such as “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” if they hear it from you.

The workshops will be given in the months ahead and into 2016, so please be in the lookout for any announcements made on your intranet page or from your HR office.

Please keep us posted at ohrm_globe@un.org if you participate, and please do share with us your thoughts.

UN-GLOBE will push for these workshops to be made available in as many duty stations as possible, particularly in the field.

You can find out more here or by contacting Preeti Potdar at potdar@unfpa.or.

For those of you in New York, the workshops will take place in November and December. You can register here.

Best,
Hyung Hak Nam (Alfonso)
