March with us!

March with us!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a key moment in LGBTIQ+ history. In June 1969, a police raid at a Greenwich Village bar frequented by LGBTIQ+ patrons led to spontaneous protests against discrimination and criminalization. These demonstrations helped jumpstart a worldwide movement for equality and inclusion.

For the past five years, UN-GLOBE has been participating in Pride marches worldwide, including in Geneva, New York, and Uganda. Our participation at Pride is an opportunity for the UN to show support for diversity, equality, and inclusion for all.

March with us in Rome!

It’s that time again to come together and show our true colors at Roma Pride! In less than a month, a week of festivities will kick off in Rome and, as always, the Rome-based agencies will come out to march. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Roma Pride, as well as 50 years since the Stonewall revolt, so it’s a very special year. In honor of Stonewall, this year’s Roma Pride will have the theme “Abbatti il muro!” – “Break down the wall!”

UN-GLOBE T-Shirts will be available so we can all march as one! We're asking for a donation of EUR 15 at the start of the march to cover the cost of shirts. Please make a note of sizes for additional shirts in the "Anything else?" box below.

Here's the place for any other info, questions, or mobility requirements you may have, we'll try and get back to you as soon as possible.

La grande parata will take place on Saturday, 8 June, starting as usual (and not so promptly) at 15:00 in Piazza della Repubblica. We’ll start heading down Via Cavour, take a left to pass by Santa Maria Maggiore church, swing right down Via Merulana, and then right again onto Via Labicana, going all the way down to the Colosseo and finishing up at Piazza Venezia. Last year we had the best turnout so far, marching for the first time behind our blue UN Globe banner. We donned UN Globe and UN Free & Equal T-shirts, were decked out with colorful accessories, and carried signs with messages of equality and solidarity!

If you’d like one of the new T-shirts with the new UN Globe logo, please choose your preferred option in the dropdown menu above. We’re requesting EUR 15 for each shirt, but no one will be turned away from the march for lack of funds. We have a strict deadline of Wednesday, 29 May to get all your T-shirt orders, so that we have time to get them printed.

More Info

We’d also like to meet ahead of time to prepare hand-held signs for everyone to carry. Last year one person prepared them all, so it would be great to get more help this year. We plan to get together at Charles Plummer’s apartment for some drinks and snacks on the terrace on Thursday, 6 June at 19:00. It shouldn’t take long, and all the supplies will be provided – we just need to stick them together. If you’re available to help, let us know by ticking the volunteer box when you sign up!

Finally, if you’d be so kind as to offer a donation to support the cost of a new banner and the supplies for the hand-held signs, please let us know the day of the march. Many thanks in advance!

Feel free to forward the link to this sign up page to all LGBTQIA+ folks and Allies who might want to come out and march with us!

See you at Pride 2019!
