March with us!

March with us!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a key moment in LGBTIQ+ history. In June 1969, a police raid at a Greenwich Village bar frequented by LGBTIQ+ patrons led to spontaneous protests against discrimination and criminalization. These demonstrations helped jumpstart a worldwide movement for equality and inclusion.

For the past five years, UN-GLOBE has been participating in Pride marches worldwide, including in Geneva, New York, and Uganda. Our participation at Pride is an opportunity for the UN to show support for diversity, equality, and inclusion for all.

In celebration of Pride Month, we are inviting all UN staff members to join us in UN Philippines’ Pride Activities for 2019! 🇺🇳🇵🇭🏳️‍🌈

On June 28 (Friday), we will be holding the “Pride Lecture on Gender & Sexuality, and History of Philippine LGBTI Movement” at 14-A and B in UN in the Philippines Office, from 2 to 4 in the afternoon.

This activity aims to provide an avenue to discuss concepts on gender and sexuality—including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics—to contextualize the importance of pride marches in advocating for the recognition of human rights of LGBTI Filipinos, and to encourage LGBTI advocacy and allyship among UN staff members.

The Pride Lecture is for free and open to all UN staff members, and afternoon snacks and drinks will be served.

On June 29 (Saturday), UN Philippines will be officially joining the “2019 Metro Manila Pride March & Festival” at Marikina Sports Complex, Marikina City under the banners of UN Globe and UN Free and Equal. The venue will open at 12 NN, while assembly for the pride march will be at 3 PM.

The Pride March is for free and open to everyone. For participants, we will be providing pride shirts, and UN and rainbow flaglets. You may invite your family and friends to join us, too. A security briefing for the pride march will take place on 28 June (Friday), 4-4:30 PM, at 14-A and B in UN in the Philippines Office.

For inquiries or more information, please register using the form and we will contact you with more information!

Feel free to forward the link to this sign up page to all LGBTQIA+ folks and allies who might want to come out and march with us!

See you at Pride 2019!
