International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) in Nairobi

UNGLOBE-Logo-Final.png

The new UN-GLOBE logo will be officially unveiled in Nairobi on May 17 for the IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia) event we have planned there. The new logo was done by the amazingly talented designer and artist LK Napolitano.

For the first time ever, the rainbow flag will be on display in the UN Office at Nairobi (UNON). And for the first time ever, IDAHOBIT will be celebrated at UNON.

The event will feature speeches from three Ambassadors; the deputy head of UNON; and most importantly, Kenyan LGBTI activists. Among them will be the Kenyan LGBTI group that has legally challenged Kenyan laws criminalizing sexual acts between males. And the Kenyan filmmakers, whose film “Stories of our lives” was banned in Kenya for its gay subject matter, will also speak.

This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring heads of UN agencies. We’ll discuss what we can collectively do to advocate for LGBTI populations in Kenya and Africa that are suffering discrimination and violence. And to reflect on where we have missed the mark.

Our UN-GLOBE coordinators there, and others in Nairobi are hard at work to put on quite a show! I hope you watch it on Facebook Live starting at 12PM Nairobi time, May
17.
